The Influence of Fe Content on Corrosion Resistance of secondary AlSi7Mg0.3 Cast Alloy with Increased Fe-content

Production of primary aluminium is energetically enormously expensive. The use secondary (recycled) aluminium, has therefore a high potential to save money and energy while reducing the negative environmental impact production. Although properties alloys are generally comparable those alloys, increased Fe content can lead significant reduction in corrosion resistance these alloys. Secondary AlSi7Mg0.3 cast alloy with different iron contents (0.123, 0.454, 0.679 1.209 wt. %) as-cast after heat treatment (T6) condition was investigated. quantitative analysis focused on evaluation Fe-phases, especially needle-like Al5FeSi phase. measured by rapid test (AUDI test). damage surface observed macroscopically. results show that higher than 0.454 % no effect amount size phases Al5FeSi. mainly influenced length phases. Increased decreases accelerates initiation corrosion.
